Cells were harvested by gentle mechanical agitation and then centrifugation (1200 g, 5 min). The pellets were resuspended in HEPES buffer, pH 7.4 and homogenized with a rotor stator (polytron) homogenizer (setting 19.2 × 10 s) on ice.
