Frozen cells were ground into a powder with a mortar and pestle in liquid nitrogen to facilitate cell disruption. The cell powder was resuspended in 4 ml of lysis buffer provided in the kit and homogenized for 2 min at 30-s intervals at 25,000 rpm using a rotor stator (polytron) homogenizer.
