Various Questions
Q: What is the ideal homogenizer for less than 100mL
total sample volume?
A: The most versatile and
cost effective homogenizer in this sample volume range is the Omni TH, Tissue
Homogenizer. This Omni TH is offered individually or in a package
including the homogenizer, three stainless steel probes and a stand assembly.
The Omni TH is also offered in a complete homogenizing kit including the
homogenizer, 12 Omni Tips and an optional stainless steel probe.
Q: What is the ideal homogenizer if we are on a
limited budget?
A: The Omni Tip Kit and Omni
TissueMaster homogenizer are two of Omni’s most cost effective options on a
limited budget. The Omni Tip Kit includes everything you will need to
homogenizer with the Omni TH, Tissue Homogenizer, 12 Omni Tips plastic probes,
Omni Tip adapter and an optional stainless steel probe. The processing
volume for the Omni Tip Kit is 0.25mL-100mL. The Omni TissueMaster is included
in our Economy Product Line and includes the homogenizer and 7mm stainless
steel probe. The TissueMaster is great for sample volume ranging from
0.25mL-30mL, but is only compatible with the included 7mm stainless steel
probe.
Q: Do any of your homogenizer offer battery operation?
A: Yes. The Omni uH Micro
Homogenizer and the Omni TissueMaster 50 homogenizer are both battery
operated. The Omni uH also has the ability for continuous operation by
means of the Powerbase Transformer/Speed Control.
Q: Are any of your homogenizers programmable?
A: Yes. The Omni Prep, Omni
PDH, Omni Macro ES, Omni MultiMix 200 and Precellys 24 all have the ability to
store complex programs for repeatability.
Q: Do any of the Omni homogenizers assist in containing aerosols?
A: Yes. The Omni Mixer, Omni
Macro and Omni Macro ES homogenizers are compatible with sealed chamber with
the customer’s choice of an exposed blade assembly or a rotor stator generator
probe within the chamber. The 250mL cup tip for the Omni Ruptor ultrasonic
homogenizer, MultiMix 200, and Precellys 24 also offer aerosol sealed
solutions.
Q: What is the ideal homogenizer for E Coli and yeast
cell disruption?
A: The Omni Ruptor ultrasonic
homogenizer is best suited for all types of cell disruption including Ecoli and
yeast.
Q: Is there a feature on the Omni Ruptor ultrasonic
homogenizer that minimizes the amount of heat transmitted to the sample?
A: The Omni Ruptor is
supplied with a 0-100% pulse controller, which operates on a two second
interval. For instance, if you set the pulse controller to 50%, the Omni
Ruptor will operate “on” for one second, rest for one second and then repeat
the cycle until homogenization is complete. The rest time will allow an
opportunity for the device to cool down and therefore minimizing sample
temperature rises. If increased sample temperature is of high concern, Omni
would recommend using an ice bucket to rest the sample in during homogenization
in addition to the pulse controller.
Q: What material is the BioMasher made of?
A: All components including
the filter, micro homogenizer and collection tube are made of polypropylene and
may be autoclaved.
